Mr. Phillip B. Simpson, Director snd 7th Grade Dean

Mr. Simpson serves as the permanent director for LaVergne Middle School. His former appointments in his twelve year teaching career include Itinerant Director for LaVergne and Smyrna Middle School, Director of Bands at LaVergne High School in LaVergne, Tennessee, Assistant Director of Bands at Coffee County Central High School in Coffee County, Tennessee, and Assistant Director of Bands at Harpeth High School and Harpeth Middle School in Kingston Springs, Tennessee. 

 

Mr. Simpson is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University where he studied clarinet with Dr. Todd Waldecker and Daniel Lochrie.  While at M.T.S.U., Mr. Simpson participated with the wind ensemble, Band of Blue, and clarinet choir. Currently, Mr. Simpson is the bass clarinetist for the Nashville Wind Ensemble.     

            

Mr. Simpson resides in LaVergne, Tennessee with his wife Rebecca, a 3rd grade teacher at Stewartsboro Elementary School in Smyrna, Tennessee, and his eight-year-old son Christopher and 4 year-old daughter Julie.  Mr. Simpson and Mrs. Simpson welcomed our newest addition, Madeline Olivia, on December 19th.  Mr. Simpson enjoys jogging, camping with his family, and spending time enjoying beach life.  

 

 

 

 

 

Chris Lowry, Associate Director LMS and SMS

 

 

Mr. Lowry is a Director of Bands at both LaVergne Middle School and Smyrna Middle School. Before joining the band program at these schools, he taught within the Metropolitan Nashville Public School System. He is an active percussion teacher in the Middle Tennessee area, working with groups such as Siegel High School, John Overton High School, Hillsboro High School, and Music City Drum and Bugle Corps.

Mr. Lowry has performed with the Cavaliers Drum and Bugle Corps and Music City Mystique Indoor Percussion Ensemble. He is a graduate of Middle Tennessee State University, where he studied percussion with Lalo Davila, Julie Davila, and Matt Jordan.

Mr. Lowry currently resides in Nashville, Tennessee. When he is not teaching or performing, he enjoys playing practical jokes on Mr. Simpson.
